Here are just a few examples of how netViz Enterprise
(nVista) can help you work smarter.
Network Support - The operations group in
Chicago gets a call about a Dell 2650 server in Miami that isnt working
correctly. The caller says that the router only has 256 MB of memory, and that
it might be a good idea to add more.
A tech-support rep logs on to netViz Enterprise and
sees a United States map showing the companys WAN backbone. She zooms in
on Miami and drills down to the South Miami NOC. From her netViz Enterprise
screen, the rep does a search throughout the facility for all 2650s. By
clicking on a search-result record, the rep opens a diagram that shows a
photograph of the wiring closet containing the suspect router. The rep clicks
on the router to see its service history, technical manuals and specifications,
and confirms that it originally had 256 MB of RAM. But then she sees a
note placed on the router by another netViz Enterprise user. She
opens it and reads that a week earlier, someone else noticed the problem and
added another 256 MB. The rep posts a quick response to the note explaining
that the extra RAM didnt solve the problem and contacts the local
operations group to look into the problem further.
By using netViz Enterprise, the rep didnt
unnecessarily order extra RAM. The annotation tools allowed her to let everyone
who looks at that diagram know that there were performance problems with the
server and that the support group was aware of them.
Customer Support A hardware manufacturer
sells and installs a WAN backbone and stores current configuration data in a
database located on the customers site. When the customers
operations group in Australia calls with a problem, the support rep in New York
opens an empty netViz project and populates it from the configuration database
to create a graphical representation of the network as it exists at that time.
The customer logs into netViz Enterprise and opens the diagrams. The two
discuss the problem and mark up the diagrams from their respective desks to
illustrate possible causes and proposed workarounds.
Business Process Management - A new employee
responsible for processing orders is given access to the portions of his
companys netViz Enterprise project that show step-by-step procedures for
completing orders. Without any guidance from existing personnel, he follows the
steps shown on the netViz Enterprise screen to begin working on his first
order. The employee reaches a step in the process that doesnt make sense.
After investigating, he learns that there is a mistake in the documentation.
Using the netViz Enterprise annotation tools, he makes a correction on the
diagram.
The next person who relies on netViz Enterprise to
fulfill an order will be able to work through the process without wasting any
time. Not only has this new employee learned something, but netViz Enterprise
allowed him to make the new information instantly available to others across
the enterprise.
Human Resources - Shortly after the human
resources manager resigns his position, a new employee reports for work. An
administrative assistant logs on to netViz Enterprise and navigates to the
human resources section of the companys netViz Enterprise project. He
drills down on the New Employee Intake page and graphically sees
all the steps necessary to process new employees.
Using nothing but the companys netViz Enterprise
project, he downloads and prints tax forms, the employee manual, and the
companys employment agreement. He also uses contact information in the
project to notify the people responsible for setting up e-mail accounts,
network access and telephone lines.
